class descriptions

We are pleased to offer a variety of yoga classes and styles for all students and all levels. Along with our regular hatha yoga classes, we also offer specialty classes. (See descriptions below for details).

Gentle: A calming, stress-relieving yoga class to stretch and strengthen the body gradually. Emphasis is on building awareness of the breath and the body. Asanas are practiced at a slower pace with attention to alignment and detail. Recommended for all levels looking for a soothing, relaxing, and restorative experience, especially those newer to yoga or working with special concerns or injuries.

Level 1: For beginning and continuing students. Focus is on basic poses, breath and alignment.

Level 1 - 2: Moderately paced classes for those ready to experience more challenging postures.

Flow: Recommended for those with at least 6 months of yoga experience. This class focuses on vinyasa style yoga (connecting breath to movement) and builds heat, strength and flexibility.

Flow 2: Recommended for students with at least 3 months of consistent practice in Levels 1 and 1-2. This class works at a moderate pace in the vinyasa style of connecting movement and breath while moving continuously. Challenging postures are introduced including inversions and balancing poses. The teacher will encourage rest periods and modifications as needed.

Flow 2-3: Recommended for students with at least 6 months of yoga experience or those in good physical condition with 3 months experience.  This class focuses on vinyasa style yoga (connecting breath to movement) building heat strength and flexibility.  Challenging postures are explored in depth including balancings, inversions and backbends.   The teacher may encourage the student to be responsible for taking rests and modifications as needed.

All Levels: A moderately paced class appropriate for ongoing/experienced Level 1 students through advanced students.  A mixed style class incorporating vinyasa yoga as well as attention to alignment and technique.
Modifications are given allowing the students to choose a more beginning or more advanced practice according to their needs.  A beautiful opportunity to be inspired by your fellow students of all levels.

Candlelight Vinyasa Flow Yoga (Level 2): Set to music and lit only by candles this soulful vinyasa class builds
heat, strength and flexibility while allowing the mind to flow into an exuberant state of meditation by traveling inward as is enhanced by the darkness. Attention is paid to the alignment of the physical form as well as to the subtle energy body (chakras).

Family Yoga: A one-hour all levels Hatha Yoga class for the whole family to enjoy! The class will explore standing poses, sun salutations, breathing and relaxtion techniques and fun interactive yoga games. It's an opportunity
for bonding with family while sharing the health and well being that yoga brings. Ages 4 to infinity!

Todder Yoga: Toddler Yoga is the opportunity to introduce a healthy and fun activity that you can start together and can last a lifetime. Our children's classes are always age appropriate for growing bodies, blossoming minds and gentle hearts.For children ages 2 and 3, it can be a wonderful bonding experience to try yoga with you, the parents. The focus of these sessions will be much more on the child, and your participation to encourage them to learn and grow, as opposed to some Mommy and me classes which focus more on the workout and the optional participation of the child. Imaginative story-telling, song and games will be used to encourage children to learn in a fun environment.

Iyengar Yoga: Based on the widely respected teaching of B.K.S. Iyengar. Focused attention is given to technical alignment, breathing and the use of props.

Iyengar-Based Integration, Mixed Level: Focuses on foundation, alignment, and breath to get the most out of every lift and twist. Create internal space to breath and move more easily in daily life. This class provides a great tune-up for the adept practitioner and a perfect starting place for the beginner. Addressing the healing aspects of yoga, we cover a range of sequences to energize and restore. 

Iyengar Inspired Mixed Level with Heather Purple: This class is Iyengar inspired with a focus on fundamentals, meditation and spiritual awareness.  With the use of props and variations, adjustments can be made so that anyone can practice in comfort.

Sun and Moon -Strong Vinyasa Flow (Sun & Moon) Sundays 10am-11:30am: This is a wonderful challenging class balancing yang and yin to create a physically invigorating yet spiritually uplifting vinyasa. If it is in your practice you can enjoy strong standing poses, arm balances and inversions including headstand & handstand but also plenty of opportunities to honor the resting moments, dropping deep and surrendering the mind.

Pre/Post Natal: A moderately-paced class to prepare for birth and to stimulate post-natal recovery. Through a safe, modified practice emphasizing movement and breath, we focus on poses that build strength and stamina while stretching and opening the body. We also cultivate breath techniques and relaxation exercises that help calm the mind. Modifications and enhancements are madefor each side of birth. All levels welcome and new moms are encouraged to bring their babies.

Gentle Restorative: This calming, nurturing class promotes the effects of conscious relaxtion and is particularily beneficial for coping with insomnia, menstrual discomfort, headaches, fatigue and an overstimulated nervous system. Props are utilized for maximum comfort. Restore, refresh, renew. Everyone is welcome!

Anusara®: A unique and dynamic style of hatha yoga that combines precise principles of bio-mechanics with a Tantric philosophical perspective of intrinsic goodness. Through the skillful application of Universal Principles of Alignment® and the exploration of your own heart's intention, experience the art/science of yoga and open to your own greatest potential, to the flow of Grace.

Specialty Classes

Parkinson's Yoga Class: This class will focus on using yoga techniques to support those in the Parkinson’s community to relieve stiffness, tension, discomfort and weakness. Please join us for an ever so gentle yoga practice to help ease your body, calm your mind and soothe your spirit. Simple routines to help with stress reduction as well as lifestyle tips will also be explored. This class is designed for the Parkinson’s community. (Caregivers may also attend)  There is NO CHARGE for this class.

12 Step Recovery Yoga: Based in the 12 steps of addiction recovery. The focus is on the release of traumatic experiences, addictive thoughts and self-destructive patterns that separate, disconnect, and prevent us from flourishing in relationships with ourselves, family and friends, and our surroundings. We practice a sweet blend of breath, movement, stretching, and stillness.  All of which gives us permission to sync our mind, body, and spirit.

Each class allows us the opportunity to tap into the healing and relief that the addictive mind needs.

Classes are always followed by voluntary sharing.

Special Note: With the exception of Iyengar classes music may be played in many of the classes according to the style of the teacher.
